The Sevicing Risk and Compliance Manager will be responsible for designing and implementing compliance policies, and procedures, review and approve external/internal correspondence to ensure compliance with federal, state, GSE, and Agency regulatory requirements. Responsible for managing assigned projects at the direction of Compliance leadership. Prepares compliance reports to present to management and help with the strategy design and execution of global Compliance initiatives for the organization effectiveness.  Reporting to the Vice President of Risk and Compliance.  

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a current comprehensive working knowledge of all mortgage/mortgage processes and procedures as directed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and Rural Development (USDA), as applicable, and any related federal/state laws and regulations, especially those originating from the CFPB, including all changes/updates. This includes maintaining a current knowledge of required industry servicing standards, as well as the CFPB Mortgage Examination Procedures. Maintains mortgage compliance reference library/mortgage compliance manual.
  • Ensure that new programs, products and services meet with applicable regulatory requirements. Assist in development of disclosures, policies and procedures, with regards to all Federal and State regulations, and Agency requirements, including but not limited to RESPA, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Housing Act as well as others that pertain to the mortgage industry.
  • Reviews and interprets compliance changes/updates to current processes and procedure. Determine how the changes/updates affect the various business units and make recommendations to manager to revise in order to stay in compliance.
  • Coordinate with the training department to implement training for the respective staff to ensure that processes and/or any changes are appropriately and effectively communicated through classroom or web-based training.
  • Facilitate the execution of the Mortgage Compliance Program, including policy and procedure review, consulting, testing and monitoring, and complaint analysis.
  • Identify and make proactive recommendations to address and mitigate areas of non-compliance for servicing that could potentially impact business results and expose MRC to additional compliance and regulatory risks. Identify monitoring and reporting needs when businesses, system or regulatory changes go into effect.
  • Assist in external or internal audits, as needed. Conduct in-house audits to identify potentially problematic areas that need correction; collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure compliance issues are addressed, investigated, determine the root cause and resolved and once resolved, continually adhered to in practice to avoid being repeated or to deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Understand and comply with all policy, laws, regulations, etc. as applicable to your job duties. This includes but is not limited to; complete compliance training and adhere to internal procedures and controls; report any known violations of compliance policy, laws, or regulations and report any suspicious customer and/or account activity.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the mortgage division personnel

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree. Academic/professional qualifications or certification in regulatory compliance, quality assurance, risk management and/or information will be desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 year’s work experience in a Residential Mortgage Lender, Bank, Credit Union, or a Regulatory Agency, as a Regulatory Compliance/Risk Professional, control or audit officer. Having servicing Mortgage experience of at least 5 years can be compensated.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and staff. Well organized, detail oriented, efficient and able to work independently and think critically.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal, State, GSE, Agency laws and regulations impacting mortgage servicing
