WHAT YOU’LL DO: POSITION OVERVIEW

The effective Business Intelligence Manager will spend his/her time in roughly the percentages below:

LEAD WORK GROUP - 20%

  • Hire and manage analyst staff to meet service level expectations.
  • Develop plans and goals, and meet regularly with reports to provide feedback and/or correction.
  • Develop and maintain an effective organization, and establish standards for performance.

DEVELOP TEAM - 15%

  • Develop or source functional training for team.
  • Identify needs and opportunities for training to support continued optimization.
  • Work directly with team to ensure they are trained in the necessary tools and processes.

ANALYSIS and SOLUTIONS DESIGN - 15%

  • Identify opportunities to improve or gain efficiencies within our systems and processes.
  • Resolve complex problems and issues where no precedent has been established or exists.
  • Identify trends/patterns; facilitate and/or conduct root cause analysis; recommend solution alternatives.
  • When possible, implement creative short-term fixes to overcome immediate operational issues while still focusing on long-term solution.
  • Assess impact of proposed business solutions on current systems and procedures.
  • Independently research, report and implement business solutions for complex problems.

REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION - 10%

  • Interpret high-level business, compliance and financial needs/requests for complex projects, with little or no background information or foundation.
  • Facilitate customer sessions and interviews to gather requirements using interviews, observations, document analysis, team meetings, white boards, business process descriptions, scenarios, and workflow analysis.
  • Consolidate/combine ideas, issues and observations into a single concept or clear presentation.
  • Write business requirements for complex projects, including the definition, scope, objectives, and defining the approach.

DATA QUERYING AND ANALYSIS - 15%

  • Analyze large data sets to identify key insights and trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate complex analytics to broader audience in writing and presentation formats.
  • Collaborate to perform data and process analyses required.

DASHBOARDS, MODELS, AND REPORTS - 15%

  • Create dashboards and reports for internal and external clients in order to improve efficiencies and promote growth.
  • Develop, analyze, and modify business models, including forecast and staffing.

DATA QUALITY - 5%

  • Work closely with IT and operations teams to fix any data quality issues and drive a culture of data quality.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - 5%

  • Apply new knowledge rapidly.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for professional development.
  • Actively participate in knowledge exchange inter-departmentally and across teams.

WHO YOU ARE: SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree. 

Previous Experience

  • 3 plus years of experience in reporting or business intelligence.
  • 1 plus years of management experience.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively perform analytical and system support duties.
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve goals and manage a backlog of work.
  • Ability to learn new applications and technologies.
  • Ability to process complex time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources, make decisions and communicate actions.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently or as part of a project team to complete multiple tasks, concurrently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, concurrently. 
  • Requires knowledge of a variety of applications including databases, web-based systems, and Microsoft suite.  

Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated SQL skills; experience querying large, complex data sets
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers, and subject matter experts
  • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, normalize data, and reconcile conflicts
  • Strong technical aptitude
